To install “Import, Export, or Delete Worksets,” you can visit our webpage: https://bimalphabet.com/download-products/ or simply click on “DOWNLOAD” in the site menu if you’re already on our website. This will take you to the webpage shown in the image above. From there, to download the file, click on “DOWNLOAD IED 1.0.”

Once the file is saved, open it to initiate the installation. Keep in mind that since our application is new to Microsoft, Windows might display a window like the one shown in the image below. However, our application is safe for your PC. To proceed with the installation, click on “More info” and then on “Run anyway.”

When the installation begins, a window will appear, similar to the one shown in the image below. In this window, you can select the installation language by clicking on the buttons labeled “English,” “Español,” or “Srpski.”

Next, you’ll need to select the Revit versions for which you want to install this add-in. In the image below, we’ve chosen to install it for Revit 2022 and Revit 2023. However, please note that the add-in will not be installed for Revit 2024, as indicated in the image.

To run the add-in, assuming the installation went smoothly, all you need to do is launch the Revit version you selected during installation. When you start Revit, it will recognize the new add-in and display a window similar to the one shown in the image below. To run the add-in without encountering the same question every time you open Revit, you can click the “Always Load” button.

While in Revit, to execute any component of the add-in, simply click on the “BIM Alphabet” tab. This action will reveal all the components, allowing you to select the one you wish to run (as shown in the image below). Further details about each component will be provided in the subsequent sections.

To uninstall the Add-in, you will need to navigate to the Control Panel and then proceed to “Programs and Features” (see image below).

In the window that appears, find the “BIM Alphabet – IED Worksets” add-in, click on it, and then click on “Uninstall.”

Export Workset is an action that should be performed before using the Import or Delete Worksets features. This is because, in order to change workset names, add new worksets, or delete existing ones, we need to manipulate an Excel file that corresponds with the Revit model. To export worksets from the model, follow these steps:

1. Click on the BIM Alphabet tab.
2. Then click on the Export Worksets command.
3. A window will appear, as shown in the image below, in that window, locate the folder where you want to save the file.
4. Set the file name.
5. Finally, click on the Save button.

Importing worksets can be used either to add new worksets or to quickly change existing workset names—or both. Below, you can see the original Excel file that we previously created using the Export Worksets feature. Further down, you’ll notice that I’ve changed the workset names and also added new worksets to the Excel file. Don’t forget to save the Excel file after making changes.

Now that we’ve modified the Excel file and saved it, we can import those changes into the model, as shown in the image below. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click on the BIM Alphabet tab.
2. Then click on Import Worksets.
3. A window will appear; navigate to where you saved the file.
4. Click on the file.
5. Then click on Open.

If you followed my example or a similar one, you should now have worksets with changed names or newly-created worksets, as shown in the image below.

Like when you want to change workset names or add new worksets (using the “Import Worksets” option), now it’s also advisable to first export the worksets if you plan to delete any of them later. For example, if you’ve exported worksets and then used “Import Worksets” to add 10 new worksets, but later decide to delete some of them, you should first export the current worksets again. Once you’ve done that, open the Excel file to mark which worksets you want to delete.

BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN DELETING WORKSETS. THE ADD-IN WILL DELETE WORKSETS EVEN IF THEY CONTAIN ELEMENTS.

So, before running the “Export Worksets” command, let’s first open Excel to see how to mark worksets for deletion.

As you can see in the image above, all you need to do to mark worksets for deletion is to place an “x” in column C next to the worksets you want to delete. Also, don’t forget to save the Excel file.

After that, you can return to Revit. Navigate to the BIM Alphabet tab and select the “Delete Worksets” command. A window will appear, in that window, go to the folder where you saved the file, click on the file, and then click on “Open”.
